Shiitake Mushroom Log Kit

Savor the rich, earthy flavors of freshly harvested mushrooms—without the hunt. Homegrown shiitake mushrooms are delicious in everything from soups and salads to pastas and risottos. Our natural hardwood log will produce a crop of organic shiitake mushrooms every two months for more than three years. Enjoy cooking with your first harvest within a month.

• Natural hardwood log (species vary), seeded with shitake mushrooms.
• Hand-seeded and watered at Lost Creek Mushroom Farm in Oklahoma.
• Just soak the log for 24 hours in cold water, mist it occasionally if your environment is dry, and watch your crop emerge.
• Logs will fruit from 1 week to 30 days after first soaking.
• Can be kept in the house or outdoors in a shady spot.

Fruiting

• Arrives seeded and ready to fruit.
• To trigger fruiting, shock your log by soaking it in cold, nonchlorinated water for 24 hours.
• If your environment is dry, you may need to cover the log with a paper or plastic bag for a few days, to ensure that it stays moist.
• In 1–3 days you should see pins—tiny white nubs that break through the bark.
• In 3–6 days you should have a “flush” of mushrooms.

Harvesting

• Harvest mushrooms when they reach 1 1/2"–2" diam. or larger.
• Slice them from the log with a sharp knife, making a clean cut at the bottom of the stem, or twist the stem out. Pulling the mushroom straight out may rip the bark.

Resting & Maintenance

• Your log will need to rest for two months between crops, so do not trigger fruiting in that time.
• A good soak every two weeks will keep the log moist and allow the shitake mycelia to grow on the inside until your log is ready to fruit again.

Within 30 days, you may return most items for a refund of the merchandise value. An original receipt or gift receipt is required for all returns and exchanges. Returns with a gift receipt will be refunded in the form of a Merchandise Credit for the amount indicated on the gift receipt. Returns with original receipt will be refunded in the original form of payment, cash and check refunds over $100 will be issued as a company check (may take 14 business days from time of request). Please note that returned items must be in new condition.

We cannot accept returns on monogrammed, personalized, special-order items, custom upholstery, food or on items damaged through normal wear and tear. Final sale items ending in .97, .98 or .99 cannot be returned. We also cannot accept returns of any food products, which are considered final sale items.

Made to Order and Final Sale Furniture items are non-returnable and cannot be cancelled once the order is placed.
